High blood pressure, or hypertension, is the leading cause of preventable heart disease and stroke death and is second only to smoking as the most common cause of preventable death from any cause. Stroke is an urgent medical emergency. Approximately 800,000 people in the United States have a stroke every year, with about 3 in 4 being first-time strokes.
Working together, we can do something about high blood pressure and stroke. With your help and support, and by using and sharing the information in these resources, together we can save many more lives from stroke, as well as control and reduce high blood pressure.
Thank you for your commitment to stroke and blood pressure awareness and education. Should you have questions or require additional information, please contact the American Stroke Association New Jersey State office by calling (609) 223-3740.
